This, my friends, is my first and last knitting project. I really wanted to like knitting. No, I wanted to love knitting. I saw the beautiful projects that people, like my friend at the now defunct blog, Duck Soup, were making and I wanted to make those things. I saw socks. I received socks. I love socks. I watch another friend sit and make socks while we chat. I want to do that. Don’t I?
Nope. I don’t. I thought that I did. My friend even loaned me those speed needles you see in the picture. Oh, they are speedy, all right. Speedy enough that an inexperienced knitter like me drops every other stitch, but that wasn’t really the problem. I am not sure what was. Hmmm…
I love yarn. I love to look at yarn. I love the way the yarn feels in my hands. I would just buy yarn to sit in my house to make me look like a knitter if it wouldn’t be just a big waste of money.
The other day I brought the knitting out again. I just wanted to make sure that I could cast on, knit, purl, and bind off. Yep, I can still do those things. That was all I needed to know. Does that make me a knitter? No? Bummer. I so wanted to be one too. *sigh*
Well, that was fleeting. I feel so much better. I am off to practice my piano!

I have to be honest with you, Tressa. Your knitting looks like my piano playing sounds. ROTFL
I know what you mean. I really wanted to like playing piano. But it was not to be. So you’ll be the pianist and I’ll be the knitter and together we will rule the world! LOL

I just discovered your blog and am really enjoying it. As for the knitting angst, at least you picked up some new skills. Who knows? Maybe someday you’ll get the knitting bug again and you’ll run with it. I first learned how to knit when I was 10 (the same time I learned to play piano). I did it for a couple weeks and then didn’t touch the needles again for 16 years. I tried to re-learn, but it just didn’t click, so I walked away and left it alone for nearly 6 years. About four years ago, it all made sense and I loved it. However I never gave up playing the piano. Stick with the hobbies that make you happiest and have fun.
At least your knitter friends know they have someone who appreciates their efforts. It’s kind of the best of both worlds. They have someone who values thier gifts, you get warm woollens that you don’t have to agonize over. Enjoy.

I wish I had continued the knitting tradition which my Mom taught me too. I could make hats, scarves, etc and I stopped. Now, I find myself with a dd after four ds and I’m trying to relearn everything again.
