2007 Baking Day

Last year, my mom, my sister and I spent an entire day baking. It was a lot of fun and we had a lot of cookies when we were done. We decided to do it again this year, but we decided to get started early. So at 8 AM we gathered at my mom’s house to get started.

This is my mom and my sister. See the nice clean kitchen behind them? It didn’t stay like this for very long. After I took this picture we got started. We had three Kitchen Aids running pretty much the whole day. We each came prepared to make 4 different things. The oven came on at 8 AM and stayed on the whole day. We took a small break for lunch. My sister brought us a meat and cheese plate. We sat down for 30 minutes to enjoy that, but then got right back to work.

Here is picture I snapped at lunch break. The nice, clean kitchen is now long gone.

You know the worst part about baking all day? Cleaning it up. Every time I switched recipes everything had to be cleaned. It is kind of a bummer.  The end product is worth it.

We are finished. We are smiling, but we are tired. At this point, the thought of ingesting any of our bounty was not appealing.

A close up of the finished product. We have Kiss cookies, Spritz cookies, Peanut Butter Balls, Cookie Dough Truffles, Vanilla Bark, and Gum Drop cookies to name a few. We used at least 6 pounds of butter, 10 pounds of flour, probably 4 pounds of chocolate, and over 7 pounds of sugar.

We went out for dinner after we packed up all the snacks. The thought of cooking anything else sent shivers down our backs. Will we do this again next year? You bet. But, I think I am going to throw out the idea of hiring a clean up crew.

  1. You are such lovely ladies.

It looks like you had a lot of fun.

  2. Wow, look at all the cookies! Do you have my address? :D

You do look lovely. Wish I had family members to do that with. :)

  3. Love the pictures! I’ve been thinking about starting up my Christmas cookies. I’ve made my list. I’ve decided what to bake for whom on which day. I even went to the commissary for all the ingredients. But I sure don’t want to make cookies! I especially don’t want to make the buckeyes (peanut butter balls). I don’t even like them.

  4. Okay. I’m lying. I DO like buckeyes. I just don’t like them enough to make them myself!

  5. One of each, please!

You are lucky to be baking with your Mom and your sister!

  6. Nummy! :D

    What a fun day!

  7. The cookies look delicious, but all I can think is.. did you wear an apron and if not, did your pretty shirt get spotted?

Other than that thought, I think it is extremely nice that your mom, sister, and you get together and bake. :-)

  8. Like Applie, I don’t have family to do this with :(
Last year a friend of mine from church and I met at the church kitchen to do some Christmas baking and had a great time. We weren’t able to get any other ladies to join us though.

I was hoping that this year we’d be able to put something together but it just didn’t happen. I think that I’d like to help organize a few days a year when the ladies can come together and do this at the church. We have a great kitchen right off a huge gym so there would be plenty of room to do this. If we all pitched in we could even pay for child care right there and order food to be delivered so we wouldn’t have to do any cooking of meals. :D

  9. You are all so utterly cute! I can smell your Mum’s kitchen from here. It’s a pity my mum and I don’t get along well enough to spend a day baking together. And that my sisters and I all live so far away from each other. That looked like a very enjoyable day.

  10. Donna, yep, I got my shirt very chocolatey. Whoops. Note to self: next year, aprons. :)

  11. And wear your pearls, Tressa! Your cookies will taste better. :D

  12. Oh my that looks scrumptious!!!
